A delicate necklace with a single clear glass link which passes through a pinkish purple glass bead.
The glass link and bead are both made from borosilicate glass. The link is clear and the bead is made from a colour called Mai Tai which gives pinks and purple. The bead can move freely round the link making it a lovely thing to play with as well as to wear. Both the link and bead have been left with a shiny finish. Each link and bead bead is made individually in our Yorkshire studio. The beads are created freehand rather than using a mould making every one unique.
Creating this piece starts with making the bead. Once it’s been annealed it’s cleaned. Then the link is created and the bead is put in place before the link is closed. The piece is then annealed again before being polished and put onto a chain.
Borosilicate glass like Mai Tai creates wonderful colours – and this makes it a challenge to photograph as lighting makes a huge difference to how the bed appears. The main image was taken in daylight and it’s closest to how the bead will appear when worn. The image on black gives you a clear idea of how the necklace will look worn with black clothes. The images on white are lit from underneath, letting you see the details. It also shows the transparent nature of the glass. Finally there’s an image showing the bead being worn.
The bead measures 14mm across the centre and is 5mm wide. The link measures 34mm by 19mm. Together the link and bead are 40mm long.
The link is finished with a 45cm (18 inch) sterling silver trace chain. The chain closes with a bolt ring clasp which fastens through a jump ring.
To ensure strength and durability all of our lampwork items are annealed in a digitally controlled kiln. This allows any stress introduced during the melting and shaping of the glass to be removed.

Silver can be affected by the atmosphere and will eventually tarnish if not worn or wrapped up. The best way to care for silver is to keep it in airtight packaging such as the tin it comes in when it’s not being worn. If it does tarnish it can be cleaned with a silver polishing cloth. We recommend you don’t sleep, shower or swim in your jewellery.
The chain on this necklace weighs less than 7.78g so is not hallmarked.
